The SPICEISLE.COM Publishing FAQ

Introduction If you're one of our Internet customers, we at Cable & Wireless Grenada Limited have made it very easy for you to publish your web pages on the internet. We've created www.spiceisle.com especially for this purpose. You can upload your pages to this server via FTP (the method used by most web-page creation programs) or by configuring your PC to be part of the spiceisle.com network, or by using Microsoft FrontPage.  This service is provided free of charge to our Internet customers.

Once we've confirmed the details you submitted about your account, a web folder will then be created for you on the server.  The internet address of the web folder will be as follows:

http://www.spiceisle.com/<your e-mail address>/

e.g.

http://www.spiceisle.com/brian/

Once the web folder  is created, you will be notified via e-mail.  The notification message will contain the username and password that you will need to use to upload any files to your web folder.

How do I update my web folder? When you've got your new web folder, you can copy files to it via FTP or MS FrontPage. Note: While we provide support for FTP and MS FrontPage only, most web publishing programs support the use of FTP for uploading web pages.

FTP:
To copy the files to your web folder via FTP, you'll need to use your  Internet login username, and the password assigned to you for accessing your web folder. Enter ftp.spiceisle.com when prompted for the name of  the FTP server provided above, then enter your username and password when prompted. .

Microsoft FrontPage:
If you have a copy of Microsoft FrontPage you can use it to edit your web page on www.spiceisle.com.   To do so, select "File..Open FrontPage web...".  When the "Getting Started" dialog box is displayed, click on the "More Webs.." icon. When the "Open FrontPage Web" dialog box is displayed, enter www.spiceisle.com., then click on the "List Webs" button.  Once the list of available webs is displayed, select your own from the list - the name of your web should match the name of your directory.   Finally, when prompted for a username and password, enter your Cable & Wireless  logon name and password assigned to you.

Web Folders:
If you've got Internet Explorer v5 or above installed on your PC, you can easily create a pointer on your PC that connects directly to your web folder.  To do so, select "My Computer..Web Folders", then "Add Web Folder".   When prompted for the location, enter the address of your web folder, e.g. http://www.spiceisle.com/brian , then enter your username and password when prompted. A new folder that points to your web folder on spiceisle.com will then be created under "Web Folders".  You can then copy files to and from this folder just like you would for any folder on your PC's disk drive.

What about virtual domains? Yes, we can host your domain for you, if you are one of our  Internet customers. To host your domain with us, you will need to do two things:

Register Your Domain
Choose a domain name if you don't have one already (e.g. briansplace.com), then register it using one of the domain registries on the Internet (e.g. www.networksolutions.com). When prompted for DNS information, please enter the following data:

Yes, Windows Media streaming is automatically offered off of www.spiceisle.com.  To stream a particular file, store the file in your web folder and provide a link to the file.  If the link is in the correct format, the file will be automatically streamed if a visitor accesses it using your link.

For example, let's say that your web folder on www.spiceisle.com is called "brian", and you'd like to stream a file called "test.wmv".  The HTTP link to your file should be "http://www.spiceisle.com/brian/test.wmv", and the streaming link to your file should be "mms://wmedia.spiceisle.com/brian/test.wmv".
