GENERAL INFORMATION
The Grenada Bureau of Standards was established by the Standards Act
No.6 of 1989. Its headquarters is situated at Queen's Park in St. George’s
MANADATE
The following acts and their attendant
regulations give force to the work of the Bureau:
- Metrology Act and Regulations No.18 of 1997
- Exportation of the Fresh Produce Act No. 2 of 1998
MISSION STATEMENT
“Improving the quality competitiveness of
Grenadian Industries and enhancing the quality of life for Grenadians
through Standardization”.
VISION STATEMENT
“To become a
centre of excellence for providing services in Standardization,
Quality Assurance, Metrology and Compliance to Standards with a view
to enhancing the Country’s competitiveness.”
ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
The Bureau is governed by a fifteen (15) member
Standards Council (Board of Directors).
Its day to day activities are managed by a
secretariat headed by a Director and eleven (11) staff members. The
secretariat is divided into two departments : the department of
Administration and a Technical Services department
ROLE OF THE BUREAU
- To prepare national standards
- To promote the adoption and application of
national standards at all levels of the country
- To monitor
the quality of foreign and locally manufactured products sold in the
domestic market
- To promote quality control in
industry
- To disseminate information on
standards and technical matters both nationally and
internationally
- Certification of products,
commodities and processes which conform to national standards.
In addition, the Bureau
- Undertakes
test for industries
- Offers
technological advice and consultancy services to industries
- Represents
the nation in international and regional standards work.
